JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast men's basketball continues the 2026 ASUN Tournament at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, March 6 against No. 4 Lipscomb.
FGCU will strive for its first ASUN Tournament semifinal appearance since the 2020-21 campaign. The Eagles defeated Lipscomb in the quarterfinals, 72-60, on March 4, 2021, in the only meeting between FGCU and the Bisons at a neutral site. The Bisons hold a 2-1 edge over the Eagles in all-time ASUN Tournament play, winning in 2018 and 2020 at home sites.
On Wednesday, second team All-ASUN selection JR Konieczny erupted for 29 points and 15 rebounds, leading FGCU to a 69-58 first round win over No. 12 North Alabama to give head coach
Pat Chambers his first ASUN Tournament win. Konieczny's 15 rebounds marked his career high, and his 29 points was the second-best performance of his career. It was his fourth double-double of the season and his tenth 20-point game.
FGCU has performed at its best this season when the Eagles control the glass, and Wednesday was no exception. The ASUN leaders in rebound margin entering the game at plus-2.8 were plus-6, outrebounding UNA 35-29. The margin was driven entirely on the offensive glass, as FGCU collected 12 offensive rebounds to the Lions' six. Konieczny had six offensive rebounds on his own, matching UNA's output as a team. The 12 offensive rebounds turned into 14 second chance points for the Eagles to just five for North Alabama. Additionally, FGCU held the ASUN's leading rebounder, Corneilous Williams (averaged 9.3 per game) to just five on the game.
The Bisons swept the Eagles in January, winning 84-77 at Alico Arena and 86-71 in Nashville. FGCU was without Konieczny for the road trip to Nashville. Lipscomb has six players scoring in double-digits. Grant Asman averages a team-best 14.4 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game. Mateo Esmeraldo scores 10 points and dishes out 7.1 assists and records 1.3 steals per game; Titas Sargiunas also averages exactly 10.0 points per game. Ross Caudelino (11.0 PPG), Ethan Duncan (10.8 PPG) and Charlie Williams (10.2 PPG) round out the rest of the Bison's double-digit scorers.Â
Chambers will aim for his first win against Lipscomb on Friday.Â
