FGCU adjusts game times, readies for UNF series

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast softball (11-20, 5-1 ASUN) will close out March at home with an ASUN series against North Florida (26-11, 1-5 ASUN), beginning at an adjusted 11 a.m. start time on Saturday, March 28.

Saturday's doubleheader has been adjusted to 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., and Sunday's series finale was moved to 11 a.m. with potential inclement weather in the forecast.

The last time out, FGCU took (RV) UCF to extra innings in Orlando. Kiki Daniels mashed a two-run homer in the sixth inning for the Eagles, but the Knights won in eight innings, 3-2. Despite the loss, Victoria Ash and Julia Bacoulis combined for a quality outing, allowing seven hits to the strong UCF offense.

Bacoulis upped her season total to 48 strikeouts on Wednesday. Sietske Drijvers caught three Knights stealing; her eight runners caught stealing on the season ranks third in the ASUN and 27th nationally.

UNF enters the weekend at 26-11 overall and 1-5 in ASUN play. The Ospreys highlighted their nonconference slate with an opening day 11-3 run rule of Auburn. North Florida also defeated Princeton and Southern Miss, and split two games with San Diego. Stetson swept the Ospreys to open ASUN play in DeLand, and Jacksonville took two of three from UNF to win the series.

Addie Keef is hitting .394 with 20 stolen bases and Mercer transfer Hallie Langford is hitting .348 with 23 stolen bases and 34 runs scored. Bella Cimino leads the Ospreys with seven home runs and 35 RBI. Langford's 23 steals is the most in the ASUN and ranks sixth nationally, Keef is second in the conference and 14th in the country.

As a team, North Florida leads the ASUN with a 3.05 ERA that is 33rd nationally. Cameron Ponich's 1.59 ERA leads the conference, followed by Kate Peters' 2.10 ERA. The duo's ERA ranks 25th and 65th in the country, respectively.

FGCU leads the all-time series with UNF 31-23. The Eagles hold a 20-14 record in Fort Myers; the two squads will meet in March for the first time since 2022. The late March series is relatively rare in the series history; it will be only the fourth three-game series in March between FGCU and UNF since the Eagles joined the ASUN (the other March series were in 2022, 2021 and 2015). North Florida holds a 9-6 advantage in games in March, including two games played in 2003.

The three-game series in Fort Myers will also be the only regular season matchup between the Eagles and Ospreys in 2026. In 2025, UNF took the series 2-1 in Fort Myers. Olivia Black, Sophie Wylie and Tiffany Meek all recorded an RBI in FGCU's win. Ash spun a complete game, allowing just one unearned run, for the Eagles in the 2025 win.
