Harper Tied for Lead as Eagles Begin Michael A. Marino Classic

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Florida Gulf Coast University men's golf team opened play at the Michael A. Marino Classic on Sunday at The Dunes Golf & Beach Club, completing the first round and nine holes of the second round. Through a round and a half, the Eagles sit in sixth place at 3-under par in a competitive field that includes several nationally ranked programs.

How It Happened
Nolan Harper has led the way for FGCU, sitting tied for first individually at 7-under through 27 holes. Harper opened the tournament with a stellar 6-under 66 in the first round, highlighted by four consecutive birdies over the first four holes on the front nine. He followed with a steady start to the second round and sits 1-under through nine holes. The sophomore has been one of the most aggressive scorers in the field, recording 10 birdies through a round and a half, the second-most of any player in the tournament.

Sacha Ruiz is currently even par through 27 holes, while Sebastian Gamboa sits at 1-over after the opening round and a half. Ruiz opened the event with an even-par 72 and has played the first nine holes of the second round at even par, while Gamboa rebounded nicely during the second round after a 2-over 74 in the opening round and sits 1-under through nine holes. Both players have contributed six birdies through the first day of competition.

Brett Moore sits at 3-over through 27 holes after carding a 4-over 76 in the opening round and playing the first nine holes of the second round at 1-under. Christian Figueredo rounds out the Eagles' lineup and sits at 6-over through a round and a half after opening with a 5-over 77 and beginning the second round at 1-over through nine holes.

Brody Stevenson, competing as an individual, is also at 3-over through 27 holes after posting a 3-over 75 in the opening round and playing the first nine holes of the second round at even par.

As a team, the Eagles have produced 28 birdies through the first 27 holes, tied for the fourth-most in the field. FGCU has also recorded 79 pars, tied for the eighth-most among the competing teams. Harper's 10 birdies lead the Eagles, while Ruiz and Gamboa each have six birdies. Stevenson has been especially steady, tying for eighth in the field with 19 pars, while Figueredo (18) and Moore (17) have also provided consistent scoring.

Play will resume Monday morning as the field returns to The Dunes Golf & Beach Club to complete the second round and begin the final round of the Michael A. Marino Classic.
