FGCU set for Big 12 showdown against Kansas

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast softball (2-2, 0-0 ASUN) is set for its first midweek game of the 2026 season against Kansas (2-3, 0-0 Big 12) at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, February 10 at the FGCU Softball Complex.

The Eagles enter at 2-2 after splitting their games during the FGCU Kickoff Classic. The Eagles earned head coach Lindsay Fico's 100th career win in an 8-0 run rule of Long Island 

Sietske Drijvers is hitting a team-best .455 with five hits (three for extra bases) and a 1.409 OPS after the first weekend of play. Tiffany Meek has a .545 on-base percentage; Meek, Drijvers and Parris Wiggs each have four RBI. In the circle, Julia Bacoulis has yet to allow an earned run and leads FGCU with 11 strikeouts.

In the win over Ball State, the Eagles recorded five two-out RBI and went 6-for-11 with runners in scoring position. FGCU's offense started hot during the Kickoff Classic, scoring 11 runs in the first innings of games.

Kansas enters at 2-3 after run-ruling Bethune-Cookman 12-0 (five innings) and Illinois State 13-5 (five innings), but falling to USF 12-4 (six innings), Michigan 4-2 and Florida 11-2 at the USF Rawlings Invitational. The Jayhawks make the trip to Fort Myers amid an opening stretch of 16 games to begin their season that all take place in the state of Florida.

Aynslee Linduff leads the Jayhawks with a .462 average; she has a pair of doubles, a triple and a .563 on-base percentage. Ella Boyer has five RBI and is one of five Jayhawks who have homered through the first weekend of play. In the circle, Chloe Barber has a 3.23 ERA and has struck out 12 though 8.2 innings of work for KU.

Tuesday's game will be the first time FGCU and Kansas meet in softball. The Eagles have four wins over current Big 12 programs in Iowa State, UCF, BYU and Utah. The most recent FGCU win over a Big 12 team was a Valentine's Day win in 2021 over UCF.

The first 50 students in attendance will go home with an FGCU Beverage Bat. Students (21+) can also enjoy $3 Bud Light, Budweiser, Natty Ice, and Rolling Rocks at the concession stand.
