Eagles and Dolphins Set for Saturday Clash inside Alico Arena

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Florida Gulf Coast University Eagles (11-11, 7-4 ASUN) remain at Alico Arena on Saturday, Feb. 7, welcoming Jacksonville (15-7, 7-4) for a 2 p.m. tip in a big ASUN matchup in Fort Myers, Fla. Both teams enter the afternoon tied in the league standings, setting up a meeting between two programs riding momentum and fighting for position as the regular season moves further into its second half.

Saturday's contest marks the 43rd all-time meeting between the Eagles and the Dolphins, with FGCU holding a 39-3 advantage in the series. The Eagles have controlled the matchup historically, including a 78-64 victory over Jacksonville in the most recent meeting on Feb. 27, 2025, in Fort Myers. In that win, Khamari Mitchell-Steen and Alahna Paige scored 17 points apiece, while Lauryn Taylor and Cerina Rolle added 12 points each.

FGCU enters the matchup coming off a dominant 79-40 home win over Bellarmine on Thursday night at Alico Arena to move to 7-4 in the conference. The Eagles separated early and never looked back, holding the Knights scoreless in the second quarter while forcing turnovers and turning defense into transition opportunities. Nay Staton finished with 12 points on efficient shooting, Airah Lavy knocked down five three-pointers to lead all scorers with 15 points, and Jordan Campbell added 11 points and seven rebounds as FGCU pulled away in the second half.

Jacksonville comes to Fort Myers after an 82-61 home victory over West Georgia on Thursday in Swisher Gymnasium, also improving to 7-4 in the ASUN. The Dolphins built control early and maintained steady offensive pressure throughout the night, shooting over 45 percent from the field while attacking the paint and the free-throw line. Tatum Brown and Priscilla Williams each scored 16 points to lead Jacksonville, Carmaya Bowman added 14, and Aniah Smith chipped in 11 as the Dolphins used balanced production and consistent rebounding to secure the win.

FGCU's season has been defined by its defensive consistency and ability to control tempo. Entering Saturday's matchup against ASUN competition, the Eagles are allowing a league-low 52.5 points per game, ranking second in field goal defense at 36.0 percent and second in three-point defense at 24.9 percent, while also giving up just 31.7 rebounds per game. Offensively, Sinai Douglas and Nay Staton lead the Eagles at 10.9 and 10.6 points per game, respectively, providing steady perimeter scoring and shot creation. Cerina Rolle continues to be a versatile presence on both ends of the floor, while Karina Gordon and Jalei Pillow supply additional scoring and defensive activity throughout the lineup. Jordan Campbell has also been a key contributor on the glass and in transition as FGCU looks to generate second-chance points and easy baskets.

Jacksonville has relied on depth and multiple scoring options throughout the season, averaging just under 68 points per game while shooting 39.2 percent from the field and nearly 30 percent from three-point range. Priscilla Williams leads the Dolphins at 14.3 points per game and is also one of the team's top rebounders, giving Jacksonville a reliable presence in the paint. Tatum Brown averages 10.0 points per contest and serves as a primary ball-handler and scoring threat, while Mychal White and Makiya Miller add perimeter shooting and secondary playmaking. Aniah Smith and Carmaya Bowman provide interior scoring and physicality, helping the Dolphins generate consistent production around the rim.

For FGCU, the focus remains on continuing its growth as the season progresses. The keys for the Eagles on Saturday are to continue improving game by game, keep Jacksonville off the free-throw line, limit offensive rebounds, and take away transition scoring opportunities. Establishing defensive pressure early and controlling the glass will be central to dictating the pace inside Alico Arena.

Following Saturday's home matchup, the Eagles will head back on the road to face North Florida on Thursday, Feb. 12, with a 7 p.m. tip in Jacksonville, Fla.
