FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast softball's (5-7) bats were mostly held in check in a 4-1 loss to Wisconsin (9-3) in the fifth game of The Hampton Inn Gulf Coast Classic on Friday night.
The Eagles scattered eight hits against the Badgers, but left seven runners on base to Wisconsin's three.
Olivia Black and
Mackenzie Leiti (two hits each) combined for half of those hits.
Julia Bacoulis got her first career hit at the plate with the Eagles' lone extra-base hit of the nightcap. She delivered an RBI double to the right field wall that also accounted for FGCU's only run scored against the Badgers.
Bacoulis, who also started in the circle, combined with
Victoria Ash to limit Wisconsin to just six hits. However, two of those left the park to help the Badgers secure the 4-1 win.
FGCU returns to the diamond at 4:45 p.m. on Saturday against Buffalo.
The Eagles will host five neutral site games on Saturday and Sunday, starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, between Louisville, Wisconsin, Buffalo and UConn. The full tournament schedule can be viewed here.
