GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The Florida Gulf Coast University men's golf team began competition on Saturday at the Gators Invitational, completing the opening round and playing through the majority of the second round before darkness suspended play at Mark Bostick Golf Course.

After the first round, FGCU stood at 14-over par as a team, led by
Brett Moore and
Sacha Ruiz, who each carded 3-over 73s to set the pace.
Christian Figueredo,
Nolan Harper and
Sebastian Gamboa followed at 4-over 74Â to round out the Eagles' scoring and keep the group within striking distance in a competitive field that includes several nationally ranked programs.
Through the majority of the second round, the Eagles made a noticeable push up the leaderboard before play was halted due to darkness. Harper is leading the charge for the Eagles in the second round, sitting at 2-under through 14 holes after turning in 2-under 33 on the back nine, which saw him hole an eagle on hole 12. Ruiz also moved into red figures for the round, reaching 1-under through 14 holes behind a stretch that featured three straight birdies. Gamboa is also 1-under through 14 holes, firing off three birdies on the back nine. Figueredo holed three birdies, but sits at 2-over through 17 holes. Moore closed out the lineup, recording four birdies across the second round, but sits at 3-over through 17.
As play was called for the night, Harper and Ruiz sit in a tie for 31st at 2-over, Gamboa sits in a tie for 42nd at 3-over, and Figueredo and Moore find themselves in a tie for 63rd at 6-over.
As a team, the Eagles have totaled 23 birdies through 32-plus holes, tying for ninth in the field in that category.

Play will resume at the Gators Invitation on Sunday morning (Feb. 15) at 7:30 a.m. to close out the second round before the final round begins in Gainesville.
