Eagles Head to Nashville for ASUN Showdown with Lipscomb

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Eagles (7-7, 3-0 ASUN) continue conference play on Saturday, traveling to Nashville, Tennessee, for a 2 p.m. ET / 1 p.m. CT matchup against Lipscomb (5-9, 2-1 ASUN) inside Allen Arena. The game marks another road challenge for the Eagles as they look to remain unbeaten in conference action.

Saturday's contest marks the 37th all-time meeting between FGCU and Lipscomb, with the Eagles owning a perfect 36-0 record in the series. The most recent matchup came on Jan. 30, 2025, in Fort Myers, where FGCU earned a 63-50 victory behind strong scoring efforts from Emani Jefferson, Lauryn Taylor, and Khamari Mitchell-Steen.

FGCU enters the weekend riding a 58-54 road victory at Austin Peay on Thursday, Jan. 8, improving to 3-0 in the ASUN. In a tightly contested game, the Eagles leaned on timely shooting and defensive execution down the stretch. Sinai Douglas delivered a standout performance, pouring in a career-high 24 points while going a perfect 6-for-6 from beyond the arc. Nay Staton added 11 points, while Jalei Pillow impacted the game on both ends with eight rebounds, four assists, and key defensive plays as FGCU closed out the win late.

Through the first portion of the season, FGCU has been efficient offensively, averaging 63.7 points per game while shooting 44.7 percent from the floor and nearly 29 percent from three-point range. Douglas leads the Eagles at 11.4 points per game, providing consistent perimeter scoring and playmaking, while Staton has been a reliable inside-out presence at 8.9 points per contest. Eve Alexander has added efficiency in the paint, shooting better than 60 percent from the field, and Cerina Rolle anchors the interior defensively while contributing across the stat sheet. FGCU also averages more than 12 assists per game, emphasizing ball movement and shared offense.

Lipscomb comes into Saturday's matchup after a 67-53 home victory over Stetson on Thursday, improving to 2-1 in conference play. The Bisons controlled the game with strong shooting and rebounding, finishing at 37.7 percent from the field and knocking down nine three-pointers. Taylor Bowen led Lipscomb with 16 points and 14 rebounds, while Elena Bertrand and Molly Heard each added 13 points. McKayla Miller contributed nine points and five blocks, helping the Bisons control the defensive end.

On the season, Lipscomb averages 63.1 points per game while shooting 39.3 percent from the field and nearly 30 percent from three-point range. Heard leads the Bisons in scoring at 13.2 points per game, while Miller adds 11.4 points and provides rim protection defensively. Bertrand has been a steady contributor at 8.5 points per contest, and Bowen has been active on the glass, averaging more than seven rebounds per game. The Bisons rely on production from across the lineup, with several players able to step up offensively.

For the Eagles, the focus remains on steady improvement as conference play continues. The Eagles will look to guard the perimeter with urgency, limit unforced turnovers, and control the glass on both ends of the floor. Continuing to get better game by game while executing the details will be key as FGCU aims to maintain momentum on the road.

Following Saturday's game, the Eagles remain on the road, traveling to Carrollton, Georgia, to take on West Georgia on Thursday, Jan. 15, at 7 p.m. as ASUN action continues.
