FORT MYERS, Fla. —
Nora Svensson was named the
Atlantic Sun Conference Preseason Player of the Year and
Anjali Kotecha earned a spot on the All-ASUN Preseason Team, the league announced Tuesday.
The duo had a stellar performance at the ITA Fall Tournament. Svensson captured the fall individual singles title and, together with Kotecha, claimed the doubles crown.
Last season, Svensson was named to the ASUN All-Freshman team. She earned 12 singles victories and collected key non-conference wins over Middle Tennessee, Minnesota, Mercer and South Alabama. The Sweden native also gained conference wins over Central Arkansas, Queens, Eastern Kentucky, North Alabama and Austin Peay.
A number of her matches went to three sets, including thrilling tiebreak wins against Eastern Kentucky (10-5) and North Alabama (12-10).
In doubles, Svensson teamed consistently with
Paloma Goldsmith, recording multiple wins at the No. 2 position. Highlights included victories over Minnesota, Georgia Southern, Mercer, South Florida, Yale, St. John's, Queens, Eastern Kentucky and Austin Peay.
Kotecha started her rookie season with a bang and was named the ASUN Freshman of the Year. She finished the season with a 14-6 overall record and was 7-2 in league play.
She recorded 14 singles victories, primarily at the No. 3 position. She earned wins over Middle Tennessee, Minnesota, Mercer, South Florida, Yale, South Alabama, St. John's, Bellarmine, Central Arkansas, Queens, Eastern Kentucky, Lipscomb, North Alabama and Austin Peay.
In doubles, Kotecha partnered primarily with
Francisca Vergara, earning multiple wins at the No. 3 position. Highlights included victories over Barry, Columbia, South Florida, South Alabama, Bellarmine, Stetson, Eastern Kentucky, Lipscomb, North Florida and Austin Peay.
Svensson and Kotecha will team up with the Eagles and start the spring season at Miami on Wednesday January 13.
