Eagles Travel to Florence for Saturday Night Matchup at North Alabama

FLORENCE, Ala. - The Eagles head back on the road Saturday night for a matchup against North Alabama, tipping off at 7 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. CT inside CB&S Bank Arena at Flowers Hall in Florence, Ala., as FGCU looks to carry its recent momentum into another challenging road environment.

Saturday's contest marks the 16th all-time meeting between the two programs. FGCU owns a 14-1 advantage in the series, including a 51-44 home win earlier this season on Jan. 1. In that meeting, Nay Staton and Cerina Rolle each scored 10 points, Staton added seven rebounds, Sinai Douglas finished with nine points, and Eve Alexander chipped in eight points, five rebounds and two blocks.

The Eagles enter the weekend coming off a 53-44 road victory at Central Arkansas on Thursday, Jan. 29, improving to 6-3 in the ASUN. FGCU controlled the game at the free-throw line and on the defensive end, with Staton leading the way with 19 points and eight rebounds. Douglas followed with 17 points and six assists, while Anna Mortag added 10 points off the bench as the Eagles pulled away in the second half.

North Alabama remains at home after a 66-62 loss to Stetson on Thursday night, dropping the Lions to 4-4 in league action. Alexandra Alvarado posted a game-high 21 points to lead UNA, while Sofia Ceppellotti added 13 points and India Howard finished with 10. Gabby Jackson chipped in seven points and five rebounds as the Lions stayed within striking distance into the final minute.

This season, FGCU has relied on defensive pressure and consistent execution to set the tone. The Eagles are averaging 62.5 points per game while holding opponents under 60, with production coming from multiple spots in the lineup. Staton and Douglas lead the way at 10.8 points per game apiece, while Eve Alexander (7.1 ppg) and Rolle (7.0 ppg) continue to provide a steady presence in the paint. On the defensive end, FGCU has been among the ASUN's top units, limiting league opponents to just 53.1 points per game, 36.0 percent shooting from the field and 23.5 percent from three-point range.

North Alabama enters Saturday averaging 63.6 points per game and is led by Alvarado, who scores 12.5 points per contest while also serving as the Lions' primary playmaker. Ceppellotti follows at 10.9 points per game, and Cameron McNamara adds 10.1 points per outing to give UNA multiple perimeter scoring options. Jackson (7.3 ppg) and Howard (7.1 ppg) help anchor the frontcourt, as the Lions look to generate offense through dribble penetration and second-chance opportunities.

For FGCU, the keys will center on continuing to improve with each outing, while staying composed against North Alabama's pressure. The Eagles will look to value every possession by taking care of the basketball, handling on-ball pressure and turning clean ball movement into quality, open looks. Defensively, protecting the paint will be a major priority, as FGCU aims to contain the ball off the dribble, limit touches around the rim and finish possessions by controlling the glass to prevent second-chance opportunities.

Following Saturday's matchup in Florence, FGCU returns to Alico Arena to host Bellarmine on Thursday, Feb. 5, at 7 p.m.
