BENTON HARBOR, Mich. – The Florida Gulf Coast University men's golf team closed out its second tournament of the fall season on Monday, finishing in seventh place as a team at the Jim DeLaPa Invitational. The inaugural tournament was hosted by Central Michigan University and featured 13 programs from around the country.
Sophomore
Sacha Ruiz led the way for FGCU, turning in a three-round total of 207 to earn ninth place individually. Ruiz improved in every round, shooting a two-over (72) in Sunday's first round before following with a one-under (69) in the middle round and closing it out with a four-under (66) on Monday afternoon.
Teammate
Nolan Harper wrapped up his weekend in a five-way tie for 14th place behind a score of one-under, while
Brett Moore's four-over was good enough for 34th.
Sebastian Gamboa closed out the scoring for the Eagles, doing so with a mark of five-over to land in 41st.
Moore produced the first eagle of the young season for FGCU, landing in the cup in three strokes on a 565-yard par five in the second round.
The Eagles turned in 43 birdies as a group, tying with Grand Canyon University for sixth in the field, with Ruiz' 12 leading the team in that category. FGCU particularly shined on par-fives, shooting eight-under for the weekend on the long holes.

The Eagles return to the links on October 6, when they open the West Bay Collegiate as the host university. The event is set to wrap up on Tuesday, October 7.
