FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast University men's golf hosts the Old Corkscrew Intercollegiate beginning this Monday at Old Corkscrew Golf Club in Estero, Florida.
The Eagles welcome nine teams to picturesque Southwest Florida for the two-day, 54-hole event. Coastal Carolina, FGCU, Florida Atlantic, Jacksonville, James Madison, Louisiana, North Dakota State, Northern Colorado, Troy and UAB will take part in the event. The 10-team field will take on a Jack Nicklaus signature-designed course, a par 72 and 7,393-yard layout.
Rounds one and two are scheduled for Monday's initial action with the third and final round to take place Tuesday. Practice rounds will occur on Sunday, and the tournament officially gets underway at 8:30 a.m. Monday morning. Live results will be available through LeaderboardKing. The tournament is free and open to the public.
FGCU has steadily climbed the rankings heading into its home event. The Eagles are currently perched at No. 50 in the latest collegiate golf rankings, the lowest of any team in the Old Corkscrew field.
Brett Moore and Sebastian Gamboa will be two golfers to watch for the Eagles. Moore, a freshman, shot a program record round of 63 this season and has been named the ASUN Men's Golf of the Week twice. He has two top-three finishes on the year and is averaging a team-low 70.5 per round.
Gamboa has also earned one golfer of the week honors this season as well. Gamboa is shooting 70.8 per round with one top-three effort on the leaderboard.
Nolan Harper, another Eagle freshman, paced all Eagles the last time out at The Johnnie-O at Sea Island, placing fourth to propel FGCU to produce a second-place team finish. This spring, FGCU has produced runner-up performances in two out of four events played and has not placed lower than fifth.
Christian Figueredo and Sacha Ruiz round out the projected starting five for the Green and Blue. The Eagles tee off Monday's opening round on holes No. 1 and 2.
