FORT MYERS, Fla. - Florida Gulf Coast University softball will travel to Carrollton, Ga. to face the West Georgia Wolves on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday will feature a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. with Sunday being a single game at 12 p.m.
This is a rematch of an earlier series in Fort Myers which the Eagles swept and
David Deiros recorded career win 800.
This series has major implications for the Eagles postseason life. FGCU is six games ahead of UWG with six games left. Any win by FGCU in the next six games clinches a spot. The Eagles are currenlty one game ahead of Stetson for the bye into the double elimination portion of the Atlantic Sun Conference tournament. The Hatters own the tie breaker.
FGCU set the DI era single season stolen base record during this past weekend, now sitting at 128 on the season.
Olivia Black is three away from setting the individual single season record.
Black leads the team in batting average, .0001 ahead of
Emily Chiarella. Black is also the team leader in slugging percentage at .427 while being second in OBP at .386.
In the circle,
Allison Sparkman continues to lead the way with a 2.26 ERA and 1.35 WHIP.
Blaire Bizette leads the Wolves in all slash line stats, slashing .379/.451/.606.
Calli Hardison has the best ERA (3.51) on the team but three pitchers have amassed at least 75 innings.
Following this series, the Green and Blue return home for the final series of the regular season against ASUN-leading North Florida. The series will be played on Friday and Saturday. Friday's games will be a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m. with a ceremony for Coach Deiros starting at approximately 3:40 p.m. The season finale will be on Saturday at 1 p.m.
