Softball sets DI single season stolen base record

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Florida Gulf Coast University set a new DI era record for stolen bases in a single season, breaking the previous mark of 118 set in 2023, during the first game win of the doubleheader on Friday, 11-3, before dropping the second game, 9-3.

The Eagles currently sit at 124 stolen bases on the season. Olivia Black currently sits 31 stolen bases on the seasons, three away from FGCU's DI era single season record for an individual.
FGCU won the first game by an 11-3 run rule in six innings. The top three of the order batted 8-for-11, stole five bases, and scored six runs. Emily Chiarella went 3-for-4, Black scored thrice and Avery Viancos drove in two while scoring herself.

Two four run innings bolstered the Eagles' efforts. A two-run triple by Tiffany Meek started the scoring in the fourth which was capped by a two-run double by Maria Angelino. The Eagles walked it off with a Meek single to score Sophie Wylie, winning 11-3.

The second game started with the Hatters jumping out to an early lead, scoring four runs in the first three innings.

Black would triple home a run in the fifth before a double steal would allow her to score, bringing the score to a 4-2 Stetson lead.

The Hatters would add five in the sixth before ultimately winning the game, 9-3.

The Green and Blue return to action tomorrow for Senior Day. Festivities start at 12:35 p.m. with first pitch around 1 p.m.
