Angelino and Viancos honored on senior day

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Avery Viancos and Maria Angelino were honored in a pregame ceremony on Senior Day as Florida Gulf Coast University softball dropped the rubber match to Stetson 5-1 on Saturday.

Viancos drove in the lone run on Saturday when she put a ball in play to the second baseman in the fifth inning allowing Ana Richiez to score from third.

The Eagles (23-26, 10-8 ASUN) started the game with Allison Sparkman not allowing a hit through the first two innings. The Hatters (25-24, 9-9 ASUN) got their first hit in the third before cracking through in the fourth with three of their five runs.

After having set the team record for stolen bases in a single season in the DI era on Friday, one more stolen base record is primed to fall next weekend with Olivia Black three steals away from the single season DI era record for stolen bases by an individual. Black sits at 32 on the season the single season record is Jessica Gary's 2008 season total where she put up 34.

The Green and Blue will play the University of West Georgia on Saturday having nearly clinched a postseason berth. The Wolves and Eagles can both finish 10-14 on the season in conference, with a 3-3 head to head record. This would leave the tiebreaker to RPI. FGCU is currently ranked 121 in RPI while West Georgia is 256.
