Eagles face 10th-seed Austin Peay in ASUN Quarterfinals

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast University women's basketball will face 10th-seeded Austin Peay in the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament quarterfinal round on Saturday. Tipoff at Alico Arena is set for 6:30 p.m.

Austin Peay defeated ninth-seeded West Georgia on Friday night, 60-49 at Alico Arena. La'naya Foster scored a game-high 19 points to advance the Governors past the first round.

FGCU faced Austin Peay earlier this season at the nest, grinding out a low-scoring 45-35 win on Feb. 1. The Govs held FGCU to 33.3 percent from the floor and just 13.6 percent from 3-point land in the game. The Eagles closed the season ranked 21st in the country with 8.1 threes per game.

45 points marked a season low for the Eagles. Back-to-back ASUN Player of the Year Award honoree Emani Jefferson pitched in 19 points to lead the Green and Blue to victory. The nation's ninth-best scoring defense held Austin Peay scoreless in the third quarter. FGCU is allowing just 53.6 points per game this season.

FGCU is 5-0 all-time against Austin Peay, and the Eagles are seeking their ninth straight ASUN Tournament title. FGCU clinched the No. 1 overall seed with a perfect 18-0 record in conference play, winning its eighth straight regular season crown but first under ASUN Coach of the Year Chelsea Lyles. FGCU has won 14-of-17 regular-season championships since joining the league, while also never finishing lower than second in the final standings.

The Green and Blue has received votes in the USA Today Coaches Top 25 Poll for nine straight weeks and currently checks in at No. 7 overall in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 Poll.
