Viancos eclipses 50 career stolen bases

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Avery Viancos set a career high for stolen bases in a game with four as she eclipsed the 50 career stolen base mark in the 9-1 win over Saint Francis on Tuesday before dropping a 12-3 decision to FIU.

The game against the Red Flash saw an offensive outpour from the Eagles. Olivia Black hit an RBI double to get the scoring going in the first and hit an inside the park home run in the second inning with a ball over the left fielder's head.

With Black's inside the park home run, FGCU took a 5-0 lead. Saint Francis scored one in the sixth but the Green and Blue bounced back with four in the sixth to secure the run-rule victory.

The second game of the split doubleheader pitted the Panthers against the Eagles. FGCU pounced early with a three-run second.

The offense for the Green and Blue started with a triple by Nikki Gibson to bring in Tiffany Meek, followed up with a Sophie Wylie single to bring Gibson home.

With runners on first and second on a three-ball count, Alexis Cowles drew the walk but the catcher threw the ball down to second. No Panther fielders caught the ball allowing Wylie to come home for the 3-0 lead.

The final three innings saw FIU pour 12 runs on the board to secure the 12-3 win in seven innings.

The Green and Blue continue their home stand at the Spring Break Classic. FGCU plays on Friday and Saturday.
