FORT MYERS, Fla. - Florida Gulf Coast University softball returns home for a weekend series against West Georgia. There will be a doubleheader on Friday and a single game on Saturday. The doubleheader starts at 4 p.m. while the Saturday game starts at 10 a.m.
FGCU and UWG will face each other for the first time as DI schools having faced each other four times already as DII programs. The Eagles won all four games.
The Green and Blue are led by
Emily Chiarella at the plate with a .337 batting average after a 7-for-9 performance against Stetson this weekend,
Sophie Wylie leads qualified batters in slugging percentage at .412 and Maddox
Thomas paces the team with a .440 on base percentage.
Olivia Black is the team leader in stolen bases with 17. She is ranked No. 27 in the country in steals. Her career total of 62 is currently fourth all-time in FGCU's DI era, one away from tying for third place.
Sparkman leads the way in the circle for the Eagles with a 2.37 ERA and 1.28 WHIP.
For the Wolves, Blaire Bizette is top two in every slash line stat, only .001 behind the team leader in OBP. In the circle, the West Georgia doesn't have a qualified pitcher with an ERA below 4.00 or a WHIP below 1.50. Three pitchers have eclipsed 50 innings pitched.
Following this weekend, the Green and Blue will have two consecutive road series against Queens and Jacksonville before returning home on April 18 to face Stetson.
