FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast University men's basketball will face Army in the CBI Quarterfinals on Monday at 2 p.m. in Daytona Beach, Florida.
Army trailed by as many as 21 points to Elon in the second half of the first-round action on Sunday, but the Black Knights outscored the Phoenix 53-39 in the half to win 83-78 and advance.
The Black Knights are 17-15 and went 10-8 in the Patriot League this season en route to accepting an invitation into the CBI Tournament. Army posted one win over an NCAA Tournament team this year, a 76-69 victory over American University who made the First Four. The Eagles are 1-1 all-time against Army. Monday's CBI Quarterfinal matchup will be the first meeting between the two programs since 2008.
FGCU went 13-5 in the Atlantic Sun Conference this season, racking up the most conference wins in the Pat Chambers era and the most since the 2012-13 season - the year of the legendary Dunk City Sweet 16 run. At 18-14 overall, 18 victories is also the most for the Green and Blue since 2021-22.
The CBI will be the first postseason event that the Eagles have taken part in since 2021-22 and the first under coach Chambers. The Eagles enter postseason play as the third-highest ranked team in the CBI field, according to KenPom, and thus earning a bye. Fellow ASUN members, Jacksonville and Queens, also accepted the invitation.
The CBI Semifinals are set for Tuesday at 9 p.m. on ESPNU. The Championship is slated for Wednesday at 5 p.m. on ESPN2.
