Florida Gulf Coast University baseball suffered another heartbreaking defeat Sunday in Athens, Georgia, losing to the No. 6 Bulldogs 4-3 on a walk-off home run.

FGCU (4-8) held a 3-2 heading into the ninth and led 3-0 through seven and a half complete. In the four-game series, FGCU led the No. 6 team in the country twice going into the final frame. FGCU led by five runs in game one and six runs in game three. Georgia (13-1) completed the four-game sweep, needing three three walk-offs and one extra-inning game to take down the upset-minded Eagles.

Chase Kriebel tossed 5.2 scoreless innings Sunday to give FGCU a fighting chance to finally steal a game. The Eagles honored the pitching staff's efforts by scoring the game's first run in the sixth inning. 

Robert Moya singled through the right side of the infield, and the ball skipped under the Bulldogs' right fielder's glove to give Mac Moise an opportunity to come home. Tyler Herb tacked on FGCU's third run of the frame with a productive RBI, putting the ball into play to plate Moya.

Jordan Vera limited the initial damage to just one run in the seventh, escaping a bases-loaded situation. Georgia scored its first run on a single and added another run in the eighth on a fielder's choice. 

Up 3-2 in the ninth, Vera recorded the first out with a swinging strikeout. Georgia was gifted the tying run on first with a hit by pitch and then ended the series with one swing of the bat.

FGCU returns to Fort Myers on Wednesday, March 5 to host USF. First pitch from Swanson Stadium is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
