FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast University men's basketball hosts North Florida at 7 p.m. Monday for Senior Night and Bellarmine at 7 p.m. Wednesday for the regular season finale at Alico Arena.
The first 500 students in attendance Monday will receive FGCU shot glasses. Tickets for FGCU men's basketball start at just $12 for general admission. For more information on single-game and season tickets, please call the FGCU Ticket Office at 1-866-FGCU-TIX (866-324-8449).
With two games to play and perched at 11-5 in conference play, FGCU is tied for third alongside EKU in the ASUN regular season standings. Eleven wins in the conference thus far marks the most in the Pat Chambers' three-year era down in Fort Myers. The Eagles must win out and get some help to win at least a share of the regular season title. 12-4 Lipscomb and 12-4 North Alabama are deadlocked atop the ledger.
Seeds 1-4 four host at least one game in the upcoming ASUN Tournament. The top two seeds also host a neutral 7/8 and 9/10 game. The tournament gets started on Sunday, March 2, with two first round matchups, followed by the quarterfinal round on Monday, March 3.
FGCU has put itself into position to potentially host a quarterfinal game at Alico Arena by winning its last two games over Jacksonville and Stetson. Last Thursday at Stetson, Rory Stewart drained a late 3-pointer with just 16 seconds to go, giving the Eagles the lead for good as FGCU rallied from a four-point halftime deficit to defeat the Hatters 83-80. Jevin Muniz eclipsed the 1,000 career point benchmark, scoring a season-high 28. FGCU is a perfect 8-0 this season against Florida institutions.
North Florida has also clinched a spot in the tournament, entering Monday's game against the Green and Blue 14-15 overall and 8-8 in the ASUN. FGCU notched an 84-70 win earlier this season against the Ospreys. Keeshawn Kellman poured in a game-high 22 points in the win. Bellarmine aims to put its name into the 10th seed consideration during the final week, sitting at 5-24 overall and 2-14 in conference.
Statistically, the Eagles are second in the ASUN in shooting percentage and in scoring defense, allowing just under 70 points per game. Rim protector Kellman and his 60.1 percentage from the field ranks no. 15 nationally, while Dallion Johnson's 86 made threes currently places No. 19 overall. Johnson's 86 trifectas are already the fifth most in a single season in program history. He is also averaging a team-leading 14.6 points per game.
