Gibson reaches 20 game on-base streak

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Nikki Gibson extended her on-base streak to 20 games as Florida Gulf Coast University softball split the two games they played on Friday beating Wisconsin 3-1 while losing to Seton Hall 7-3.

"Nikki is always a battler at the plate," FGCU head coach David Deiros said. "She consistently puts up great at bats, providing us some key consistency."

FGCU opened the night against Wisconsin and Allison Sparkman in the circle. Sparkman continued her incredible start to the season, only allowing one run and five to reach base in the complete game win.

Ana Richiez was the offensive standout in the first game, accounting for all three runs scored by FGCU in the game driving home two on a single and then going first to third to score on the Maddox Thomas double.

The Eagles turned around immediately to play Seton Hall. The Pirates scored one in the first and added a two-run homer to take the 3-0 lead.

The Green and Blue tied it up in the fourth, capped off by a two-RBI double by Leslie Flaherty in her first career collegiate hit.

The Pirates would add four more in the next two innings to win 7-3.

FGCU returns to action tomorrow against Wisconsin and Omaha, scheduled first pitch is 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
