FORT MYERS, Fla. – Undefeated Florida Gulf Coast University women's basketball hosts North Florida at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday for Play4Kay Night (Pink Out) at Alico Arena and Stetson on Saturday at 4 p.m. for Senior Night.
FGCU, winners of 14 straight, survived a three-point scare last Saturday at EKU to remain undefeated in conference play at 12-0. The Eagles are perched one game ahead of second place, 11-1 Central Arkansas. Only UCA and FGCU have clinched a spot in the upcoming ASUN Tournament, but only FGCU has won 20 or more games this season. The Eagles have done so every season since 2004-05, and only FGCU and UConn have won 25 or more games for 14 straight seasons. FGCU has received at least one vote in the USA Today Top 25 Coaches Poll for the sixth consecutive week.
Lauryn Taylor collected her second ASUN Newcomer of the Week Award on Monday with back-to-back double-double performances on the road. The fifth-year senior scored a team-high 14 points and 11 rebounds at EKU for her ninth double-double of the season, eight of which have come in ASUN play. Taylor ranks Top 50 in the country in three statistical categories. Her 9.5 rebounds per game this season ranks second across the ASUN and No. 38 nationally. Her 227 rebounds ranks No. 30, and her nine double-doubles ranks No. 36 overall.
Defensively, FGCU possesses a Top 10 scoring defense, allowing just 53 points per game. FGCU has held 20 opponents to 58 points or less, with a season-high allowed just 65.
Behind the arc, FGCU's is averaging 8.6 made threes per game, ranking No. 23 nationally. The Green and Blue has knocked down 300 or more made threes for 15 straight seasons, leading the country in made threes in five out of the last seven seasons. The Eagles produced 325 treys a season ago, placing sixth overall in the nation. This season, FGCU has hit 207. In 2018, the Eagles set the NCAA record for the most made threes in a single season with 431.
The Eagles are 36-6 all-time against the Ospreys (4-21, 0-12 ASUN). Wednesday night's contest marks the 40th all-time meeting between the two programs, and FGCU has won the last 15 matchups. FGCU defeated UNF by 35 points in the first meeting this season, 88-54 on Jan. 9. Emani Jefferson scored a game and season-high 23 points. The Eagles' last defeat against UNF occurred in 2018 on the road in Jacksonville. FGCU has won 45 straight against ASUN opponents dating back to Jan. 21, 2023.
Shifting to Saturday, FGCU will honor and celebrate the accomplishments of nine seniors with a pregame ceremony against Stetson (13-11, 7-5 ASUN). FGCU will face Stetson for the first time this season and is 36-5 all-time against the Hatters, winning the last six meetings.
