FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast University women's basketball team heads west for some post-Thanksgiving action, traveling to Las Vegas, Nev. for the 2025 Resorts World Classic. The Eagles will face off against Stanford on Friday, Nov. 28 at 8 p.m. ET, before turning around to meet Troy on Saturday, Nov. 29 at 10:30 p.m. ET in a quick-turn, two-day nonconference test.
FGCU enters the Classic looking to bounce back after an 82-64 loss to Indiana on Tuesday afternoon from Alico Arena. Despite the setback, the Eagles showed encouraging stretches on both ends, including 23 points off turnovers, 30 bench points, and a 74.1% effort at the free-throw line. Sinai Douglas led the way with 12 points, while Anna Mortag added 11 off the bench and Karina Gordon chipped in eight.
Stanford arrives in Las Vegas with momentum after a dominant 98-43 home win over Lehigh on Sunday. The Cardinal shot 66.7% from the field and 53.8% from beyond the arc, using length, efficiency, and balanced scoring to control the game from start to finish. Friday's matchup marks the fifth all-time meeting between the programs, with Stanford holding a 4-0 series lead. The most recent meeting came on Nov. 25, 2022, when the Cardinal earned a 93-69 win.
Troy opened the week with a 74-60 victory over Montana State, fueled by sharp shooting and strong interior play. The Trojans shot nearly 60% from the floor and 61.5% from three, while generating 26 points in the paint and 16 fast-break points. Saturday's contest will be the third meeting between the two programs, with FGCU holding a 2-0 advantage. The Eagles won the most recent matchup on Dec. 10, 2010, by a score of 63-50.
For the Eagles, key points to the games throughout the Classic will be centered around clean, efficient basketball. Offensively, FGCU looks to limit turnovers, value each possession, and attack the paint with purpose while maintaining poise against two physical, fast-paced opponents. Defensively, the Eagles aim to protect the paint, win the rebounding battle, and apply strong on-ball pressure to disrupt rhythm and limit high-percentage looks.
Following the weekend in Las Vegas, FGCU returns to the road to face Arkansas State on Tuesday, Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. in Jonesboro.
