FGCU Returns Home for Clash with Indiana

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast University women's basketball team returns to Alico Arena on Tuesday afternoon, hosting Indiana University at 1 p.m. The matchup marks another early-season test for the Eagles as they look to bounce back from Wednesday night's road loss against George Mason.

FGCU is coming off a 58-41 defeat in Fairfax, Va., where the Eagles battled defensively but struggled to generate consistent scoring. Karina Gordon and Jalei Pillow each finished with nine points to lead the offense, while Sinai Douglas turned in a strong all-around performance with seven points, six rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Despite the setback, the Eagles controlled the glass with 39 rebounds and showed stretches of disciplined half-court defense, especially when it came to defending the Patriots' elite three-point attack. The Patriots went 0-13 from deep.

Tuesday's matchup features an Indiana squad coming off a commanding 72-53 win over Butler. The Hoosiers shot over 50 percent from the field and were fueled by their dynamic trio of Shay Ciezki, Lenée Beaumont, and Zania Socka-nguemen, who combined for 45 points. Beaumont led the way with 21 points on 6-9 shooting, while Ciezki added 14 and Socka-nguemen contributed 10. Indiana's efficiency from three-point range, going 9-16, proved decisive, as did their ability to finish plays in the paint and convert Butler turnovers into points.

Tuesday marks just the second meeting all-time between the Eagles and Hoosiers. FGCU won the first matchup back in December 2010, earning a 73-69 victory.

For FGCU, the keys of the game will be controlling Indiana's tempo and containing the Hoosiers' high-powered trio. Slowing Ciezki, Beaumont, and Socka-nguemen down will be critical to limiting Indiana's rhythm. Offensively, the Eagles aim to play with poise and urgency, particularly in transition, while ensuring that all five players on the floor stay connected and in sync.

Following Tuesday's home contest, FGCU will travel west to Las Vegas, Nv. to compete in the Resorts World Classic. The Eagles are set to face Stanford on Nov. 28 at 8 p.m. ET, followed by a matchup with Troy on Nov. 29 at 10:30 p.m. ET.
