Eagles Look to Carry Momentum Into First Road Test Against George Mason

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast University women's basketball team hits the road for the first time this season, traveling to Fairfax, Va. to face George Mason on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. on ESPN+. The matchup marks an early-season test for the Eagles as they look to build on the momentum from their dominant win over Ave Maria.

FGCU is coming off its first victory of the 2025-26 campaign, and the first career head coaching win for Raina Harmon, following a commanding 92-37 performance at home. The Eagles set the tone early and never looked back, showcasing efficiency, ball movement, and depth across the roster.

Karina Gordon delivered a breakout performance, posting a career-high 24 points to go along with five rebounds and seven assists. Eve Alexander also notched a career high with 17 points, adding five rebounds and three steals while sparking FGCU on both ends of the floor. Nay Staton nearly recorded a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds, and Jordan Campbell powered the Eagles on the glass with a career-best 12 rebounds to pair with eight points. In total, the Eagles recorded 92 points, 55 rebounds, and 18 assists while holding Ave Maria to just 21.2 percent shooting.

George Mason enters the matchup looking to continue their winning streak after a 61-54 victory over Georgetown, showcasing a scrappy defensive identity and tough perimeter play. Wednesday's contest marks the first meeting between FGCU and the Patriots, adding intrigue to this early-season nonconference battle.

For the Eagles, the key points of emphasis are to take care of the ball and execute efficiently on offense. Defensively, FGCU will focus on containing George Mason's top shooters, and maintaining a strong presence on the boards through consistent box outs and rebounding.

Following the trip to Fairfax, FGCU returns home to Alico Arena on Tuesday, Nov. 25, to host Big Ten opponent Indiana University at 1 p.m.
