FORT MYERS, Fla. - Florida Gulf Coast University swimming and diving will welcome University of Miami and University of Tampa to Fort Myers for the Eagle Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The two-day meet will have three sessions, one on Friday at 4 p.m. and two on Saturday at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Eagles are coming off a season opener win at last week's FIU Classic, which saw several strong finishes at the meet, highlighted by
Aislyn Barnett's win in the 200 breast (2:18.11),
Cassie Bauer's first-place finish in the 200 IM (2:06.20),
Izzy Ackley's victories in the 100 back (54.05, meet record) and the 200 back (2:0053), and
Libby Russum's wins in the 50 free (23.29, meet record) and the 100 free (52.07).
Jasmin Kroll added a runner-up finish in the 500 free (5:10.94), while
Nadia Helm placed third in the 200 fly (2:12.60). The Eagles closed out the competition with a victory in the 400 free relay, as Kroll, Russum,
Mia Burke, and
Leah Gentry-Tuney combined for a time of 3:26.55.
Diving will compete on the one and three meter boards before wrapping up the Eagle Invitational with a diving team event where three divers from each school will perform two of the team's six dives to produce a team score.
Alexandra Andueza is coming off an Atlantic Sun Conference diver of the week honor where at the FIU Classic in her debut with the Eagles, Andueza dominated the 1-meter dive with a record-breaking score of 293.50 at the Doral Aquatic Center, setting a new pool record and earning the team's first postseason qualification of the season. She followed up with a strong second-place finish in the 3-meter dive, scoring 256.60 to complete an impressive opening performance.
Following the Eagle Invitational, the Eagles head to Houston for three days of competition at the Phill Hansel Invitational, November 19–21.
