FGCU powers past UNF 3-1 behind Cabo’s career-high 21 kills

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Florida Gulf Coast University volleyball picked up a 3-1 victory over University of North Florida Ospreys, powered by Julija Grubisic Cabo's career-high 21 kills and her tenth double-double of the season with 10 digs. The Eagles are now 7-2 in the Atlantic Sun Conference, tied for second place with Central Arkansas.

Katie Gielas added 11 kills and a pair of aces, while setter Hanna Borer ran the offense with 21 assists, two aces and five digs.

The Eagles dominated at the service line (9-5), went 10-6 in blocks and finished with 52 kills compared to the Ospreys' 43.

"I thought the first two sets tonight we played really complete all the way around," said head coach Thais Baziquetto‑Allen. "And of course we had to make things a little bit interesting after that, but I loved the way that we fought back into the 4th and found a way to win it. Our crowd was awesome as always and really helped us pull out that fourth-set win to close it out. Julija was really good tonight and stepped up when we needed her to with some big swings in some big spots."

In the first set, FGCU built a comfortable 18-10 lead behind four points from Gielas and won 25-15.

In the second set, the Green & Blue jumped out to a 20-9 lead; UNF responded with a 12-4 run to close the gap to 24-12, but FGCU closed it out 26-24 to take a 2-0 lead.

The Eagles appeared in control in the third set and were on their way to a sweep at 21-19, but UNF mounted a 7-3 run to overtake the lead and claim the set 26-24.

In the fourth set, UNF led 21-15 and was eyeing a fifth set, but the Eagles responded with an 11-3 run and closed out the set 26-24.

The Eagles conclude their homestand Sunday, facing Jacksonville Dolphins (17-4, 8-1 ASUN), the league leader.
