Four players scored in double-figures but Florida Gulf Coast University saw its win streak snapped at three games as the Eagles fell 92-83 to Queens University of Charlotte Saturday afternoon in Atlantic Sun Conference men's basketball action from Charlotte, North Carolina.
Dallion Johnson scored 22 points to pace FGCU, with
Keeshawn Kellman scoring 15,
Rahmir Barno adding 12 off the bench, and
Jevin Muniz chipping in 10. Barno also net a new career-high with nine assists in the contest.
The Eagles trailed for the duration of the contest, falling behind by as many as 17 in the first half, 38-21. The score would be tilted toward the home side at halftime, 51-39.
FGCU (6-9, 1-1 ASUN) showed the resolve that had defined its three-game winning streak in the second half. Down 59-49, the Eagles would go on a 13-3 run to tie the game.
Rory Stewart would connect on a pair of 3-pointers during the run, including the final shot to even the score at 62-all. Queens would push the lead back up to six, but shots from long range by Stewart and Johnson tied the score back up, 77-all, as the clock would down to 4:03 remaining.
Queens (9-6, 2-0 ASUN) would have one last run in it, going on a 9-0 rally over the next three minutes to make it an 86-77 game with 1:43 left. FGCU would get within six, but could get no closer as FGCU lost for the first time in 2025.
FGCU got back into the contest thanks in part to offensive rebounding and second-chance points. The Green & Blue had seven offensive rebounds, turning them into 13 points. Both teams shot well from the field, with Queens going 31-of-60 and FGCU connecting on 30-of-67.
Leo Colimerio led all scorers with 35 for the Royals.
FGCU will open up the home portion of their ASUN slate this Thursday when North Alabama visits Alico Arena. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. for the Welcome Back Bash as the Eagles welcome back students for the new semester. Tickets are available by visiting
