OXFORD, Ala. - Florida Gulf Coast University softball won a 10 innings thriller against Eastern Kentucky, 3-2.
Riley Oakes notched her second multi-hit game of the tournament and the combination of
Angelina Bonilla and
Allison Sparkman held the Colonels to zero earned runs.
The game started with Bonilla entering the circle and dominating as she has all year. Bonilla went six innings without allowing an earned run. Two unearned runs came across in the fourth but that was all the Colonels could muster against the Eagles.
Allison Sparkman came on in relief in the seventh and proceeded to silence the EKU with four innings of no-hit work, only allowing one base runner to reach.
Oakes continued her torrid pace at the plate. The third-team All-ASUN honoree drove in a run in the third and came around to score later in the inning.
Olivia Black got her first start of the ASUN Tournament, stealing two bases, scoring the first run of the game, and putting the ball in play that allowed
Meagan Ricks to score the winning run.
Up one run, Sparkman got two quick outs. The final EKU batter of the game put a jolt in the ball but
Tiffany Meek laid out to make a spectacular play and ending the game.
Up next is the ASUN semifinals against No. 2 UNF. The Eagles were 2-1 on the season against UNF.
