Henschel named ASUN All-Tournament

FORT MYERS, Fla. - After pitching one of the best games of the season for Florida Gulf Coast University last Tuesday, Justin Henschel has been named to the Atlantic Sun Conference All-Tournament Team. The announcement was made after the conclusion of the tournament Sunday.

Facing the highest-scoring offense by numerous metrics in all of NCAA D-I, Henschel held Austin Peay State University to just three runs over seven innings in picking up FGCU's victory at the conference championship. Henschel was credited with a complete game victory as the Eagles offense enabled the hurler to end the game two innings early thanks to the run rule being in effect. It marked just the fifth time this season that APSU was held to three runs or less.

The sophomore from Plantation got out of trouble in the sixth inning after APSU scored a run and loaded the bases with one out. Henschel would force a chopper back to the mound, enabling the sophomore to turn a 1-2-3 double play to end the inning. The Eagles would score four runs in the seventh to make it 13-3 and Henschel would get out of the seventh without allowing a run.

Henschel finished the season with a 5-2 record and two saves. He worked 66 innings on the year, the most on the FGCU staff.
