FORT MYERS, Fla. - Florida Gulf Coast University softball is primed for the Gainesville regional for a rematch against the number four Florida Gators. The Green and Blue earned their bid to the regional after winning the ASUN Tournament, winning every game they played.
The Eagles are joined in the regional by the Gators, the FAU owls and the South Alabama Jaguars. FGCU has played Florida and FAU earlier this year. The Florida result was a 9-0 loss at home while the FAU game was a 3-1 loss on the road. South Alabama and FGCU have not faced each other this year.
Neely Peterson was named tournament MVP after hitting the walk-off home run to secure the ASUN championship.
Angelina Bonilla,
Riley Oakes,
Tiffany Meek, and
Allison Sparkman were also named to the All-Tournament Team.
Oakes recorded three mutli-hit games over the course of the ASUN tournament and Meek made jaw dropping defensive plays regularly. Sparkman pitched 12.2 innings, only allowing one earned run. Sparkman has the lowest ERA of any qualified pitcher in the regional.
The regional is double elimination format. There will be one game on Friday, either one or two games on Saturday, and either one or two games on Sunday depending on results.
