FORT MYERS, Fla. -
Mac Moise drove in Florida Gulf Coast University's only run as the Eagles dropped a tough, 2-1, decision to Eastern Kentucky University Saturday afternoon at Swanson Stadium in Atlantic Sun Conference play.
A pitcher's duel throughout, the Eagles took a 1-0 lead when
Trevor Kole doubled to lead off the third, then came home to score on Moise's double to the gap in right-center. For the senior, it was his fourth double of the series.
However, hits would be tough to come by for the Eagles for the rest of the game. It would not be until the eighth inning, when
Evan Dempsey singled back up the middle to put runners on first and second with two out. That would be the last knock for the Eagles in the game as FGCU would go hitless for the rest of the contest.
Cameron Bye had his longest outing in an FGCU uniform by both pitches and innings worked. Bye went 6.1 innings and did not allow his first hit until the seventh. The leadoff single would come home to score with two men out as that would be the only run he was charged with for the game.
Jake Bunz also pitched well but a sacrifice fly in the ninth would score the winning run for EKU.
The Eagles (24-24, 16-10 ASUN) will be back in action at noon in the rubber game of the series. Senior Day festivities will take place at 11:20 a.m.
