FORT MYERS, Fla. - Florida Gulf Coast University softball swept Stetson on Sunday with a 3-2 win. With the win, and the UNF loss in Jacksonville, the Eagles are now in sole possession of second place in the Atlantic Sun Conference with six games to go.
Neely Peterson added to her team-leading RBI total on Sunday with two RBI to bring her total to 29 on the season.
"I had to make some adjustments after the first game based on what I was seeing at the plate," Peterson said. "I laid down the bunt in the four hole right where my team needs it and continued to make the adjustments to hit a double and bring in the winning run."
Stetson grabbed an early lead before
Allison Sparkman entered the circle throwing four innings, allowing no runs and only three hits.
Angelina Bonilla got the four-out save, her ninth on the season good for second-best in the nation and best in the ASUN.
Peterson got the scoring going for the Eagles in the third with a squeeze play that allowed
Avery Viancos to score.
FGCU took the game in the fifth with a
Riley Oakes single to score Viancos for the second time on the day. Oakes came across to score on a Peterson double that found a spot down the left field line, securing the 3-2 win.
