FORT MYERS, Fla. - Three Florida Gulf Coast University women's tennis players have achieved Atlantic Sun Conference honors.
Fanny Norin was named First Team All-ASUN.
Isabella Colmenares earned a spot on the Second Team All-ASUN list, while
Ida Ferding and Norin secured spots on the Academic All-ASUN Team. The honors were announced Thursday by the conference office.

"These young women have worked extremely hard and deserve all of the recognition they have been given," said head women's tennis coach
Courtney Vernon. "Not only have they excelled on the court, but they have also been great in the classroom."

The trio were instrumental in leading FGCU to a 12-9 overall record and 7-3 league mark.Â
This is Norin's fourth all-conference award for the Green & Blue. She appeared on the ASUN First-Team and ASUN Freshman First Team in 2021, earned a spot on the second team in 2022 and landed on the First Team last season. A marketing major, Norin earned a spot on the academic team as well with a 3.705 GPA.

This season, Norin registered an overall 12-8 singles record and 8-2 mark in league action all at court No. 1. She delivered victories over DePaul University (6-1, 6-1), Barry University (6-1, 7-5), Bellarmine University (7-5, 7-6 (4), Queens University of Charlotte (4-6, 6-3, 10-4), Miami University (6-3, 6-2), University of North Alabama (7-6 (5), 7-5), Kennesaw State University (6-4, 6-3), Eastern Kentucky University (6-1, 6-3), Stetson University (1-6, 6-3, 7-6 (5) and University of Central Arkansas (6-0, 6-3).
Norin also teamed up with Ferding at No. 1 defeating Florida Atlantic University 6-3, DePaul 6-3, UNA 6-4, University of North Florida 6-4 -- which clinched the doubles point for the Eagles --Â EKU 6-2 and UCA (6-3).

Colmenares leads the Eagles in wins with a 16-5 overall singles record and 6-2 conference mark. She held a nine-match win streak defeating FAU (6-2, 6-4), DePaul (4-6, 6-2, 6-3), Barry (5-7, 6-0,6-1), Air Force (6-1, 6-1), Bellarmine (7-6, 6-4), Queens (6-0, 6-0), Mercer (6-1, 6-0), Miami University (6-4, 6-3) and Belmont (1-6, 6-1, 6-2).Â

In conference action, she held a five-match winning streak, defeating UNF, Kennesaw State, EKU, Stetson and Central Arkansas. Her highlights also include clinching the match for the Eagles over Belmont, UNA and KSU.Â

She has six doubles wins this season, mainly at No. 2 going 7-6 (7-0) with
Gabriela Macias against FAU, 6-1 versus Barry, 7-5 against Bellarmine and 6-0 versus Queens (N.C.), 6-3 against UNF and 6-3 against Stetson. Â

Ferding also earned a place on the academic team with a perfect 4.0 GPA and is majoring in engineering.

She has registered 10 singles wins so far, mainly at No. 5, but the highlight of this season was her win on court No. 3 with a 2-6, 7-5, 1-0 over Iowa. She also had non conference wins over Air Force (6-1, 6-3) Belmont (6-3, 6-2) and Miami University (6-7,6-2, 1-0). Her conference wins include Bellarmine, Queens, UNA, KSU and EKU. She clinched the match for Eagles against Bellarmine 7-6 (4), 6-4 Feb. 21.Â

In doubles action, she's 6-7 at No. 1 with Norin. The pair defeated FAU 6-3, DePaul 6-3, UNA 6-4, UNF 6-4 -- which clinched the doubles point for FGCU -- EKU 6-2 and UCA (6-3). Â

Norin, Colmenares, Ferding and the Eagles will begin their quest to become 2024 Atlantic Sun Conference Champions at 9 a.m. Friday, taking on the third-seeded University of North Florida at the FGCU Tennis Complex.
