Eagles hunt for title at ASUN Championship

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast University women's golf seeks its first-ever title at the ASUN Championship, which begins Sunday at Hampton Cove in Huntsville, Alabama.

The Eagles have produced four runner-up performances in the history of the championship, narrowly missing punching a ticket to the NCAA tournament just a season ago. FGCU came up two shots short of a title in 2023 and finished second in 2019, 2017 and 2016.

The 2024 ASUN Championship will be played at Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Hampton Cove, a par 72 and a 6,150-yard course. The Eagles tee off Sunday's opening round at 8:30 a.m. (EST). One 18-hole round is scheduled for each day of the three-day tournament, Sunday through Tuesday. Live results will be made available through Golfstat.com.

Amelie AlcantaraLousiane Gauthier, Leonie WulfersPosie Farrelly and Anna Claire Bridge will make up the FGCU starting five in Alabama. Gauthier and Farrelly earned ASUN Women's Golf of the Week honors throughout the season.

Farrelly notched a medalist performance at the Puerto Rico Classic, and Gauthier tied for seventh at the 2023 ASUN Championship. Alcantara paces the Eagles in round average at 73.9 over 23 rounds.

The Green and Blue has posted one tournament victory and four top-three team finishes to its resume. The Eagles have placed no lower than third in their last four events this spring. As a team, FGCU holds a 297.5 scoring average and are on pace for the third-lowest team scoring average in program history under the direction of second-year head coach Shannon Sykora.

FGCU enters the championship ranked as the fourth-highest team across the ASUN in the latest collegiate golf rankings, No. 114 overall. North Florida paces the ASUN at No. 88 overall.
