Eagles triumph over Bruins with 4-1 decison

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Florida Gulf Coast University's women's tennis team quickly sealed a 4-1 victory over Belmont University Thursday.

The match was originally slated for Wednesday but was rescheduled due to rainy conditions. Doubles matches were not contested. 
 
"The ladies are growing each time they compete, they are taking steps and learning more about themselves," said FGCU head women's tennis coach Courtney Vernon. "They are looking forward to playing again tomorrow."
 
The Green & Blue (7-5) wasted no time as Amelia Kopel won her match on court No. 6 with a 6-0, 6-1 victory before Ferding delivered a 6-3, 6-2 showing at court No. 5.
 
FGCU's No. 1 player, Fanny Norin continued the Eagle's dominance with a 6-2, 6-4 victory. The Bruins responded on court No. 3 as Jordana Ossa fell 6-4, 6-3.
 
The Green & Blue could not be stopped as Isabella Colmenares clinched the match on court No. 2, winning 1-6, 6-1, 6-2.
 
The Eagles will continue their homestand, taking on Virginia Commonwealth University (10-2) Friday at 11 a.m.
