Eagles fly over Ospreys with 5-2 decision

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Florida Gulf Coast University's women's tennis team took full advantage of home fans' cheers and chants and triumphed over the University of North Florida Thursday with a 5-2 victory.

This is the third time in program history that the Green & Blue defeated the Ospreys in 22 total matchups. The Eagles (9-8) pushed their Atlantic Sun Conference record to 4-2 while UNF (8-8) fell to 3-2 in conference action.
 
"The Ladies competed hard today," said FGCU head women's tennis coach Courtney Vernon. "Each time they play they grow and keep getting better, we are looking forward to playing Kennesaw       State on Saturday."
 
FGCU wasted no time as Isabella Colmenares and Paloma Goldsmith won 6-3 on court No. 2 before Ida Ferding and Fanny Norin clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 score to give the Eagles a 1-0  lead.

 In singles, Colmenares delivered a nearly perfect sweep going 6-0, 6-1 on court No. 2. Amelia Kopel followed along winning her match on No. 6 with a 6-1, 6-3 decision.

 The Eagles continued the offensive barrage with Jordana Ossa adding another point and clinching the match for the Eagles with a 6-1, 6-4 score on court No. 4.

The Ospreys finally got on the scoreboard as Goldsmith dropped her match 6-2, 7-6 (4) and Ferding fell 6-3, 7-5, 1-0 (5) on court No. 5. Norin prevailed on court No. 1 with a 7-6 (3), 7-5 victory to seal   the Eagles win.

 FGCU remains home to take on Kennesaw State University (8-5, 4-1 ASUN) Saturday at 9 a.m.
