Softball looks to continue unbeaten ASUN start

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Florida Gulf Coast University softball will travel to Jacksonville to face Jacksonville University for a three-game weekend series on Sunday and Monday with a doubleheader on Sunday.

The series was originally planned for Saturday and Sunday but due to inclement weather, the series was pushed back one day to its current format. This series of three games will be the second through fourth true road games for FGCU this season.

The Eagles are one of three ASUN schools to start conference play unbeaten when they held Queens scoreless for the entire weekend. Over the 21 inning series, FGCU only gave up seven hits including the sixth no-hitter in program history by Angelina Bonilla and a one-hitter by Allison Sparkman during the second game of the doubleheader.

Jacksonville lost their opening series away from home against Bellarmine University, dropping the opening doubleheader before coming back and winning the lone game to close the series.

The Green and Blue top the ASUN in many team statistical categories including RPI, ERA, shutouts, saves, innings pitched, opponent batting average, base runners thrown out, and percentage of runners thrown out. Eagles players also top the league in batting average in Nikki Gibson (batting average, 0.418), Allison Sparkman (ERA, 0.86), Allison Sparkman (losses, 0), Angelina Bonilla (saves, 6), Angelina Bonilla and Allison Sparkman (runs allowed, 10), and Angelina Bonilla and Allison Sparkman (triples allowed, 1).
