FORT MYERS, Fla. - With a win streak at five games after a dramatic win Tuesday night, Florida Gulf Coast University returns to Atlantic Sun Conference play this Saturday at noon as the Eagles take on Kennesaw State University at Stillwell Baseball Stadium.
The schedule for the series was shifted due to a forecast of inclement weather in the Kennesaw area. The teams were originally scheduled to play single games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday but now are slated for a doubleheader Saturday and a single game Sunday.
The Eagles (10-10, 3-0 ASUN) have won five games in a row, with the two midweek wins coming in dramatic fashion. March 13,
Mac Moise hit a solo homer in the top of the 10th to lift the Green & Blue to an 8-7 victory over cross-state rival Florida International. After a sweep of Bellarmine last weekend to open ASUN play, the Eagles clawed out a 3-2 win over the University of South Florida last Tuesday.
Evan Dempsey's bases loaded single with two men out in the ninth drove in the winning run, giving the Eagles the walk-off victory.
Tuesday's win over USF was the second walk-off victory for FGCU this season. March 3,
Charles Davalan hit a game-tying homer in the bottom of the ninth, then
Robert Moya doubled home
Ian Farrow with the game-winning run as the Eagles topped Xavier 5-4.
Kennesaw State (11-9, 2-1 ASUN) won the first two games of an ASUN series against the University of North Alabama but fell in the finale 4-2. The Owls have three wins over ranked opponents, taking a victory at No. 10 Clemson and winning two out of three at No. 25 Kentucky.
This will be the final regular season meeting between the two schools as conference foes. KSU will be joining Conference USA for the 2024-25 season. The two schools have had a tremendous rivalry on the baseball diamond. FGCU owns a 32-20 lead in the all-time series, but the Owls have won three of the last four contests.
Game two of the series will start approximately 45 minutes after the conclusion of Saturday's first game. Sunday's finale is still slated for noon.
