Eagles get Queens sweep

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Florida Gulf Coast University softball finished the first weekend of ASUN softball against Queens University of Charlotte on Sunday with a 1-0 victory. The Eagles did not allow a run over the course of the series. This is the first time since April 28 and 29, 2014 that FGCU has shut out an opponent over an entire weekend.

Angelina Bonilla added to an awe-inspiring weekend where she already threw a no-hitter when she came on in relief to earn her nation-leading sixth save of the season. Bonilla's ERA now falls to 0.88 on the season and her relief era is 0.53.

Ally Hulme got the start for the Eagles and showed why her ERA is now a minuscule 2.3 going 4.1 innings and only allowed five base runners.

Defense once again shined bright for the Green and Blue with several dazzling plays. Olivia Black stole a hit to start the game with a perfect read in right field to snag a weakly hit ball looking to drop in shallow right field.

Tiffany Meek continued her streak of fabulous second base play in the sixth inning with a diving catch to end the inning.

The only run of the game was scored when Annalyn Duncan enticed a rundown with Olivia Black on third. Black scored before the out was recorded and that was all the Eagles need to secure the queen sweep.

Up next is a big midweek matchup against No. 10 Florida.
