FORT MYERS, Fla. -
Robert Moya went 3-for-3 with a homer and five RBI as Florida Gulf Coast University scored eight runs in the first en route to a 14-3 win over Bellarmine University in Atlantic Sun Conference baseball action, completing a series sweep at Swanson Stadium Sunday afternoon.
"It was really important to get the sweep today," Moya said. "We're playing conference games and those are really important. This week was a great [week] all around. It wasn't just a three-game sweep, it was a week sweep."
The Eagles (9-10, 3-0 ASUN) already led 3-0 when Moya came to the plate in the first. He would turn on the first pitch he saw, sending a majestic drive out to right-center 413-feet away. The swing stretched FGCU's lead to six. FGCU would add two more runs later when
Jacob Lojewski was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and
Harrison Povey drew a bases loaded walk.
Bellarmine (1-18, 0-3 ASUN) got on the board with a run in the third, but Lojewski's third RBI of the game came via a double that plated
Ian Farrow to make it 9-1. The double would help open the flood gates a little wider as the Eagles scored four more times in the inning. Moya dropped a single into left-center to plate two, then
Jake McKee sent a 2-2 pitch back up the middle to plate two more and make it 13-1.
The Knights got closer with two runs in the fifth, but the Eagles would get an insurance run in the seventh to assure the game ended via run rule.
Derek Lopez earned his second hit of the day as his single brought home
Trevor Kole to make it 14-3.
Chase Kriebel started and went four innings on the mound, allowing a run on three hits. With the game being shortened to seven innings, Kriebel qualified for the victory on the mound to improve his record to 1-1.
Connor O'Hara,
Dalton Robinson, and
Evan Dempsey each worked an inning, with Robinson and Dempsey posting scoreless frames.
The Eagles out-hit Bellarmine 16-6. Moya and
Charles Davalan each had three hits, with Farrow, Lojewski, Lopez and McKee each joining the multi-hit parade.
FGCU will step out of conference to take on the University of South Florida this Tuesday. First pitch at Swanson Stadium is set for 6:30 p.m.
