FORT MYERS, Fla. -
Annalyn Duncan hit a single past the shortstop in the bottom of the seventh to secure a 6-5 walk-off victory over UAB Wednesday.
"It felt great to come through for my team," Duncan said. "My mindset going in was to wait for my pitch. I waited for one to bring up and I swung."
Allison Sparkman started in the circle for the Eagles, only allowing one earned run and three balls to leave the infield in 19 batters faced.
The Blazers jumped out to a five run lead in the fourth but the Green and Blue would not back down from the challenge, fighting back for the win.
The comeback started with a
Nikki Gibson single down the left field line to score
Riley Oakes in the bottom of the fifth.
Down four runs, the Eagles came out hot in the sixth starting with an
Olivia Black four-pitch walk. Duncan passed the baton with a single to left center. Oakes fought back on an 0-2 count to load up the bases with a single of her own.
Tiffany Meek stepped up and put the ball in play, allowing Duncan to score and bring the Eagles to within three.
Neely Peterson continued her show of power with a double to right field that brought one home and put the tying run in scoring position. The Eagles put two more balls in play and the speed of Gibson allowed the tying run to advance on an infield single.
Tied up going into the bottom of the seventh, Duncan brought
Avery Viancos home to secure the Eagles win.
Up next for the Eagles is the start of ASUN play against Queens University of Charlotte.
