FORT MYERS, Fla. -
Riley Oakes recorded two hits and stole a base in the season opening game against Boston College which ultimately ended as a 2-0 loss.
Senior
Claire Maulding got the start for FGCU and pitched well. Maulding kept the Boston College batters in check, recording three strikeouts, but ultimately giving up a long ball to allow her only two runs of the game.
Angelina Bonilla showed why she was an All-ASUN selection last season when she inherited the bases loaded in the fifth with two outs to get. Bonilla kept the Green and Blue in the game leaving two BC batters swinging at air to keep the game at 2-0.
With momentum on the side of FGCU,
Meagan Ricks led off the bottom of the fifth with a seven-pitch walk. Ricks then swiped second to get into scoring position with no one out. Ultimately she did not cross the plate but Oakes gave the Green and Blue one more chance when she notched her second hit and stole second with one out on the board. FGCU failed to bring her home and lost 2-0.
Up next is a rematch against Boston College on Friday at 5 p.m. followed up by a game against Georgetown at 7:30 p.m.
