FORT MYERS, Fla. - Florida Gulf Coast University's men's basketball team will take the national stage on ESPNU Wednesday night as the Eagles face Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Kentucky. Tip-off is set for 9 p.m. in Atlantic Sun Conference action.
The Eagles (10-14, 4-5 ASUN) will take on the Colonels (12-10, 8-1 ASUN) in the league's lone nationally televised game in the regular season. The two squads were picked to finish in the top two spots in the league, with EKU in the top spot and FGCU in second according to the league's coaches.
FGCU is coming off a tough 70-69 loss at North Alabama Saturday night. The Eagles had a chance to tie at the free-throw line with 1.6 seconds left, but the front end of the 1-and-1 fell off the iron. The Eagles had a chance at a tip-in at the buzzer, but the ball wouldn't go through the hoop.
EKU had a 7-0 record in conference play until a 94-76 loss at Queens University of Charlotte last Thursday night. The Colonels would bounce back two days later with an 86-76 thumping of Kennesaw State University on the road.
