FORT MYERS, Fla. - FGCU men's tennis took apart Toledo, 4-3 on Thursday.
Pablo Paternostro put up a double bagel on court three, winning 6-0, 6-0.
"It's probably the best match I played in my life," Paternostro said. "Everything clicked, I got so many aces, missed barely any shots, and only gave up a few points against a very solid player, a guy who doesn't miss."
The Eagles quickly took the doubles point.
Harry Michalowski and Paternostro took doubles court two, 6-1, in 26 minutes with
Hugo Magnusson and
Eric Oncins settling the doubles point on court one, 6-2, just six minutes later.
John Zakowski and
Mika Bunjes were up 5-3 before their match was suspended.
Up 1-0, the Green and Blue continued quick momentum with Paternostro's win on court three. He was in complete control en route to the double bagel.
Toledo fought back to 2-2 before Bunjes fought through a tough match to win 6-2, 6-2 and bring the eagles one point from clinching.
With the score 3-2, and court two looking like it was going to a decisive third set, Michalowski was behind 4-2 on court six. Michalowski broke his opponent to bring the score to 4-3. He held and broke his opponent's next serve to serve for the match. Michalowski ended up winning the set 6-4, clinching the match for the Eagles.
Up next for the Eagles are the final two non-conference matches before conference play when they face UAB and UNC Asheville on March 9 and 11.
