FORT MYERS, Fla. -
Jacob Lojewski went 4-for-5 with a grand slam as Florida Gulf Coast University made it back-to-back wins over Bethune-Cookman University with a 10-3 victory Saturday afternoon at Swanson Stadium.
"What's most impressive is that we only had the leadoff man on base twice," said head coach
Dave Tollett. "We had five quality at-bats from
Robert Moya, and after Lojewski's big blow, we were sailing from there."
FGCU (2-4) used five first inning singles to plate two runs and take and early lead. Two more runs crossed the plate in the home half of the second as RBI doubles by
Mac Moise and Moya made it a 4-0 game.
Bethune-Cookman (3-3) came back with a pair in the third, but the Green & Blue would put the game away in the fifth. After a bases loaded walk to
Harrison Povey, Lojewski turned on a 2-1 offering and deposited it over the wall in left to make it a 9-2 game.
From there, the Wildcats scratched across a run in the seventh and the Eagles would answer on a bases loaded walk to
Charles Davalan.
Cameron Bye and
Dylan Wolff would combine to retire the last six Bethune-Cookman batters and FGCU took the series win.
Justin Henschel started for the Eagles and went 3.2 innings, allowing one earned run on four hits.
Nick Love (1-1) earned the win with 3.1 solid innings of relief, giving up a run on two hits. Bye and Wolff struck out five of the last six batters in the game.
"Love came in and did a nice job," Coach Tollett said. "It was good to see Bye have a good outing, because we need him to get going. The last inning was special for our whole pitching staff to watch Dylan. He's been through an awful lot of rehab to get back, and it was just great to see him do that."
The two teams will wrap up the series here Sunday at 1 p.m.
