FORT MYERS, Fla. - Florida Gulf Coast University will honor five men's basketball seniors tomorrow prior to its important Atlantic Sun Conference game against Queens University of Charlotte. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tip-off, with the Senior Day ceremony to come 20 minutes prior to the start of the game.
FGCU will honor
Keeshawn Kellman,
Isaiah Thompson,
Franco Miller, Jr.,
Dakota Rivers, and
Cyrus Largie for their contributions to the FGCU program. Kellman has been with the program for one year after transferring from Princeton. Thompson is a two-year performer for FGCU after beginning his career at Purdue. Miller played six games at Ole Miss before coming to Fort Myers for the next four seasons. Rivers and Largie are two of just 112 men's basketball players in the 2023-24 season to be playing all five years of eligibility at the same school.
While Senior Day is important, the game will be equally as vital. Only 10 teams will qualify for the ASUN Championship, and the Eagles are currently in eighth, just one-half game in front of Central Arkansas and Jacksonville who share ninth place in the standings. Queens sits just ahead of FGCU with a 6-8 record in ASUN action. A win over the Royals would push the Eagles one-half game in front of them in the standings with two games to go for FGCU.
The two teams played earlier this season in Charlotte, North Carolina, with the Royals pulling out a 78-75 win. The loss was the first of four one-possession losses for FGCU in conference play this season.
Despite the 74-67 loss to Kennesaw State Thursday night, Kellman regained the national lead in field goal percentage. As part of his eighth double-double of the season, Kellman went 7-of-7 from the field and improved his mark on the year to 68.9 percent. He now has a lead of 2.9 percent in the national rankings.
