Ian Farrow, Joey Lojewski and
Harrison Povey each connected for home runs in the third inning as Florida Gulf Coast University built a lead only to see No. 5 TCU rally back to win 13-10 Saturday afternoon in Fort Worth, Texas.
Saturday's game started off as nearly a carbon copy of the Friday night contest. TCU (2-0) scored in each of the first two innings, and in the third the Eagles rallied back to take the lead. This time, it was part of a four-run rally to make it a 4-3 game. Farrow started the scoring with a two-run blast, then two batters later, Lojewski went yard to knot the score at 3-all. Povey would then follow with a solo blast to make it back-to-back blasts and give the Eagles the lead.
With FGCU (0-2) up 5-4 entering the fifth, the Eagles would build the lead by sending nine men to the plate, with five of them scoring. Lojewski started the inning with a single, then Povey worked a 13-pitch walk. A replay on a potential double play went in FGCU's way, putting runners on the corners with one out, and a walk to
Armani Newton filled the bases.
Jake McKee would drive home a run with a single to center as the Eagles went station to station. A fly ball deep into the right field corner by
Mac Moise worked for a sacrifice fly to bring home another run and make it 7-4. Then on a 2-1 count,
Charles Davalan split the gap in left center for a 2-run triple to push the lead up to five. Farrow would follow with a single and the Eagles held a 10-4 advantage.
Justin Henschel would throw 98 pitches over 5.1 innings before giving way to the FGCU bullpen.
Evan Dempsey (0-1) would get out of a jam in the sixth and set TCU down in order in the seventh, but the Horned Frogs would come off the deck for seven runs in the eighth to get the win.
The Eagles will close out the series with TCU Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. EST.
