Women's tennis drops 4-2 battle against DePaul

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Florida Gulf Coast University's women's tennis team battled for almost four hours before falling to DePaul University, 4-2 Thursday at the FGCU Tennis Complex.
 
"We are learning and growing each time we compete," said FGCU head women's tennis coach Courtney Vernon. "Today we did not get the win, but the ladies are learning more about themselves and how to handle pressure. We look forward to playing again on Sunday."  

The Blue Demons (1-3) took the doubles point to begin the day.

FGCU (0-4) responded in singles, as senior Fanny Norin dominated at court No. 1 winning 6-1, 6-1 to put the Eagles back in the game. DePaul would answer back as junior Lola Glantz dropped her match at No. 6 with a 6-3, 6-1 score and sophomore Amelia Kopel fell 6-3. 6-3 at No. 5. 

Junior Isabella Colmenares rallied through three sets, dropping the first but pushed through with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 2.

At that point, it was still any team's match, and the result came down to court No. 3 as graduate student Ida Ferding took the first set 7-5 and fought through the second set, narrowly losing 7-6 (6). She dropped the final set 6-3, and the Blue Demons clinched the match.
 
The Eagles remain home Sunday as they host Georgia State (0-2) at the FGCU Tennis Complex. First serve is set for 10 a.m.
